Stuck in the Friend Zone

Stuck in the Friend Zone

How many of us have gotten stuck in the Friend Zone? You know that relationship that took a turn for friendship that you hoped would be more. Eddie Murphy made us laugh about the Friend Zone in Raw, but for most of us this is not a laughing matter. If you’re not careful, you could ruin a friendship that is special to you and emotionally fulfilling and beneficial by crossing the line.

However, every time you look into their eyes, you feel butterflies in your stomach. Your friend holds a special place in your heart. This is the first person you have allowed in your fragile heart that is still mending from the last unsuccessful relationship. The friendship you share means so much to you because you can finally be yourself. Your insecurities are not an issue, because this person loves you no matter what you look like or what you’ve been through. You have entered the Friend Zone.

Once you have entered the Friend Zone, you feel that crossing the line is like tasting the forbidden fruit of knowledge. If you take this friendship to the next level, you run the risk of getting disappointed and hurt again. The person you once felt comfortable sharing your dreams with could change and let you down like the last person you were involved with seriously.

Why ruin a great friendship? Who says you have to? There are countless articles on how not to get stuck in the Friend Zone, but I think the Friend Zone is where you need to be in order to build a long lasting relationship. Why can’t you marry your best friend and remain best friends until your last breath? I believe relationships that begin and remain centered on friendship as their foundation can withstand any challenges.

As friends, couples communicate differently, openly and much more often. They enjoy spending time together and look for mutually enjoyable activities and hobbies. The level of respect for each other is greater because it was earned and not expected. The amazing thing is your friendship and relationship will continue to grow stronger even when beauty fades, bodies lose their appeal and mobility, and bank accounts don’t flourish.

It is a true blessing to share my life journey with my best friend. I’m glad to say that I’ve been stuck in theFriend Zone for 10 years, and frankly there’s no place I’d rather be.
